why tarasan?

I grew up across the street from the Moriyasu family in Portland, Oregon. I learned tea ceremony from Soju and was encouraged to paint by Kenyu. For me, Soju and Kenyu Moriyasu were my Japanese grandparents - my Obachama and Ojichama. To this day, I associate art practice with their pet name for me - Tarasan.
